Recovering Warpcentre

Hi,

Somehow after a chkdsk was imposed on me (after running the WinNT virus) my
Warpcentre settings were corrupted and have now been reset to a default.   I
have a recent backup tape – what files do I need to restore?

Regards,
Andy

Xfree86 no longer works – 2

All

I am re posting this as I only got one response and that was to re install xfree86 which I had
already tried.

I had xfree86 3.3.3 working fine. Now it won’t. I do not recall doing anything and have backed
out most of the things I have done in the last week and nothing makes any difference. Here is
the output from startx:

shm_init()

********** very long wait at this point ***************

_X11TransOs2OpenClient: Timeout on wait for server response, handle=9, rc=233
_X11Trans       Probable cause: the XServer has exited or crashed while the connection
was being established
_X11Trans       or the XServer is too busy to respond.
_X11TransOpen: transport open failed for local/pooh:0

waiting for X server to begin accepting connections .
_X11TransOs2OpenClient: Open server pipe \PIPE\X\xf86.0 failed, rc=231
_X11Trans       Probable causes: either the XServer is not running, or has not started
properly,
_X11Trans       or the DISPLAY variable is set incorrectly.
_X11TransOpen: transport open failed for local/pooh:0
..
_X11TransOs2OpenClient: Open server pipe \PIPE\X\xf86.0 failed, rc=231
_X11Trans       Probable causes: either the XServer is not running, or has not started
properly,
_X11Trans       or the DISPLAY variable is set incorrectly.
_X11TransOpen: transport open failed for local/pooh:0

This repeats ad nauseum.  XF86SUP.SYS seems to start OK at boot.  Checkinstall reports
nothing wrong and all the X config.sys stuff looks OK.

Is there any one on the project about? The docs say to post here but there is no response
and mail to the good Dr Veit goes unanswered. Usually he responds in a couple of days but
it has been two weeks.

Problem with Fdisk, Partitions and CD Rom

Hello, everyone.

I’m rebuilding my machine as an OS/2 box, but I need to be able to boot to
other OS’es too, at least for the time being.

I have a Pentium 120 with 48 MB Ram, a 1.6 GB HD, a 4.3 GB HD, and a CD Rom.

I have the 1.6 drive partitioned as follows – boot manager, about 250 MB for
a DOS FAT primary partition, and the rest for a WIN95 FAT primary partition.

The 4.3 HD has one primary partition – about 3 GB as primary HPFS and one
extended partition with FAT so that I can swap data between the OS’es.

I’ve used Partition Magic to set all the primary partitions as hidden, so in
theory I should be able to see:

Under DOS – a 250 MB FAT C partition on Drive 1 and  a 1000 MB FAT D
partition on Drive 2
Under Win95 – a 1350 MB FAT C partition on Drive 1 and a 1000 MB FAT D
partition on Drive 2
Under OS/2 – a 3000 MB HPFS C partition on Drive 2 and a 1000 MB FAT D
partition on Drive 2

Under each system, I ought to see the CDROM (also an IDE, like the drives)
as Drive E.

I’m not able to install OS/2 because every time I try to install it, the
partitions become not hidden, and then the poor machine is confused, and I
can’t get access to my CD ROM.

I seem to be able to switch back and forth from DOS to Win95 without this
happening, though.

I’m about at my wit’s end, and my hair is already thin enough that there
isn’t much left to pull.

Anyone who can suggest what to do next would be greatly appreciated.

Is there a way to force the CD ROM to stay a particular Drive letter? Or the
partitions?

Thanks, Bob.

OS/2 Warp partitioning

I’ve got a new copy of OS/2Warp version 4 that I hope to install on a
box already running WindowsNT4 and RedHat (Linux) 6.0. The partitioning
layout is as follows.

NT4 (NTFS) occupies the entire 3GB primary IDE drive. Linux occupies
the first half of the second, 6GB, IDE slave drive. The rest of that
drive is divided into three NTFS partitions. I use NT Loader to dual
boot to Linux and NT4.

I plan on installing a third, 1GB, IDE drive which will be configured
as the master drive on the secondary IDE controller. My CD-ROM drive,
currently the master on the secondary IDE, will become a slave to the
1GB drive.

I’d like to install OS/2Warp on this 1GB drive and would like to
continue using NT Loader to boot between OSes. I have no experince with
OS/2 and need to know whether there is any reason why this installation
could not work as planned. Specifically, is there any reason why OS/2
couldn’t be successfully installed on this third drive? And can NT
Loader be configured to boot OS2/Warp in this location?

I’d appreciate hearing from anyone with experience dual booting OS/2
with either NT4 or Linux.

Thanks in advance!

Anyone else? 154569=basedev LMS205.ADD

I get this line at the top of my config.sys after a new installation is
done:

154569=basedev LMS205.ADD

The syntax is illegal and the config stops loading at this line. This
happens with or without FP10.

Anyone else seen this?

Anyone else? ATI AGP Rage card

A vertical white line appears just before my Desktop appears. It doesn’t
seem to affect anything; performance is good. To judge from the "whine"
of the monitor, I guess the card is changing modes.

I’m using an ATI Rage II+ AGP.

IBM 4029 Laser: Yikes!

Anyone have an IBM 4029 laser working? I just picked up a used one and am
having the worst time getting it running.

When I print, from Describe mostly, it just says it’s flushing the buffer.
Nothing comes out. The self tests are all okay.

I’ve gotten the newest drivers from Lexmark; I’ve deleted the printer object
_and_ the drivers themselves and reinstalled.

Oddly, when I check the drivers under the printer object properties, I often
see my other printers’ (FXPRINT and HP 500C) drivers highlighted, along with
the laser printer driver. So I deleted the other printers and their drivers
and reinstalled.

Some weird stuff. Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks.

Plug & play modem woes

I finally took the plunge and bought a 56k modem.  However, it is a plug
and play modem, and I don’t know how to get OS/2 (4.0) to recognize it.

Under windows it shows as Com4, address 9100.  I tried this with OS/2
and it did not work.

Any ideas?
