PCMCIA Cirrus Logic Chipset PD6832, modem not working

I have recently purchased an AST Ascentia P Series laptop for a great
price that precluded full research.

I have everything working under OS/2 except the modem card.

There are no drivers from AST for the subject chipset, but many other
laptops use it.  I installed those for the Ambra TS30A5 (because it was
first alphabetically).

The Plug and Play for PCMCIA recognizes the modem card, a USR Sportster
SP1336, just fine, but the status information in the Assigned Resources
window says:

<Staus>
  Error
(IRQ Error>
  4
<I/O Error>
  2E8 – 2Ef

I don’t know if this is a problem with the drivers, or a configuration
issue.

I have configured dual boot, and the modem is fine under Windows 95.

Please help!

    Do you have a free irq below 9?
    You have two options.
    1) disable com 2 and allow the modem to take its place (OS/2 will not allow
    irq sharing)
    2) use autoutil2 and modify the irq values for the modem to a free irq below
    9.
