Warp on an HP Pavilion

Simple. I’ve been using OS/2 Warp Version 3 for years on my
486DX4-100 with no problems (had to do a little magic with the
original install to get the SCSI cdrom to work). I bought an HP
Pavilion 7360 and Warp is giving me a headache. It will get to
the reboot part of the install and hang just as it accesses the
hard drive, don’t even get to see the little white block in the top
left. I’ve gotten all the driver updates I can find for the HD system
from IBM and I still can’t get it to work. If someone out there has
had the pleasure of getting it to work on a Pavilion, please post
how you did it. I’m pulling my hair out. I can usually get this stuff
to work. Not this time!
Thanks,
-joe-

There’s a problem with installing to partitions that lie outside the
first 2Gb of the disk on some machines. The symptom is jsut as you
describe – a hang before the white boot blob appears. The solution is
to install to a partition that’s wholely contained within the first 2Gb
    of the disk.

I’ve got warp 4 w/fp5 running fine on a HP Pavillion 8160.  The only
trouble I had was that I had to use the 8-28-97 version of
ibm1s506.add. For some reason the latest version didn’t want to work
    during the install.

-Trevor, thanks for the input on the first 2Gig install. I had
a feeling that might have had something to do with it after
doing some reading. I was trying to install on an extended
partition in the last 1Gig of a 5Gig drive. I’ll try it in the first
    2Gig to see what happens.

-Richard, thanks for your input. Did you install Warp in the
first 2Gig of your drive? Let me know. I seem to remember
giving the 8-28-97 IBM1S506.ADD file a try and it didn’t work.

Thanks Richard. That pretty much settles it. I’ll try to install
it to the first couple of Gig and see how it goes.
